2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject index. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

ABI/INFORM Premier source of business information for more than 30 years, this database indexes and abstracts more than 1000 journals in business -- full text articles are available for over 500 publications, including the Wall Street Journal 1984 - present.
Biological Abstracts This is an excellent database for conducting research in the life sciences, as well as providing resources for those with biomedical research needs.  Produced by BIOSIS, Biological Abstracts contains nearly 8 million citations drawn from over 4,000 foreign and domestic journals and grows by over 5% each year.
PsychInfo Indexes & abstracts journals and other publications in psychology.
